MACOBAP (Makulubita Community Based Poverty Alleviation Project)

The success of the Millennium Development Goal shall require sustained action across the entire decade; it shall take time to train the teachers, nurses and engineers; to build the roads, schools and hospitals; to grow the small and large businesses able to create the jobs and income needed. So we must start now. And we must more than double global development assistance over the next few years. Nothing less will help to achieve the Goals.

* This was one of the remarks made by the United Nations Secretary General about the realization of the Millennium Development Goal

MACOBAP is one of the community based projects which aims at contributing to the realization of the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and the Uganda National Development Plan (UNDP). This is done by improving the condition of living of the marginalised residents of Makulubita Sub County in Luwero district by empowering these people in the sub county to effectively engage in viable and sustainable development initiatives. Specifically the project aims at promoting access to clean and safe water, access to quality and affordable early childhood education to the children, access to quality and affordable medical services to the residents and empowering the residents to effectively engage in modern farming, micro enterprise development initiatives and combating HIV/AIDS pandemic by the end of project period.

It is expected that at least three Boreholes shall be drilled in the area, a good number of protected wells shall be dug and the community shall be empowered to effectively harvest the abundant rain-water as viable ways of alleviating water shortage and promoting access to clean and safe water.

The project shall also address the acute lack of access to quality early childhood education by constructing at least two nursery and two primary schools, training and facilitating teachers and providing school fees and scholastic material, which are extremely hard to get in the village.

It is envisaged that the project shall also provide the marginalised rural people in the village access to quality and affordable medical services by renovating the existing and constructing more health centers, providing medicines, medical equipments, training personnel and promoting volunteer program for medical experts from developed countries and also empowering the local people to invest in medical services. the project aims at empowering the poor rural community of Makulubita to effectively engage in viable sustainable agriculture, environmental protection and micro enterprises as fundamental ways of alleviating poverty in the lives of the poor rural people by providing for them improved seeds, appropriate technologies, access to market and linkage with strategic stakeholders.

Last but not least the project shall empower the community to combat HIV/AIDS scourge in their communities through; sensitization, training Community Based Counselors and Peer Educators, conducting Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), training community members on Home - Based Care & Treatment, facilitating the infected community members to get medical treatment, care and support.

It has been projected that the project shall take a period of sixty months (five years)
